Triton Conference, 18-20 April, Palma de Mallorca

MALLORCA

With ‘Growing For Gold’ as the main conference message, where better to hold the 2008 Triton Conference than a place that, over the years, has expanded and prospered. The Island’s lustre has been coveted by Romans, Arabs, Berber pirates and British tourists alike!

The Island’s reputation for cheap mass tourism emerged from the large scale developments on its south west coast. Early resorts that remain popular today include Magaluf and Palma Nova to the west of Palma and Can Pastilla to the east.

However, Mallorca isn’t standing still and continues to grow with greater emphasis on upmarket tourism. Visitors are being encouraged to explore the island's beautiful coastline and beaches as well as the mountainous interior with its picturesque villages and almond groves.

PALMA DE MALLORCA

Mallorca’s capital is famous not just for its beaches, beautiful sea and prehistoric caves, but also for its cultural life and historic attractions such as the Cathedral, the Palace of Almudaina and the Arab quarter — a maze of narrow streets which hides museums, palaces and courtyards.

Palma has many restaurants, shops and a thriving nightlife as well as a lively café society.

PUEBLO ESPAÑOL

Pueblo Español is a reconstruction of a Spanish village, drawing inspiration from traditional architectural styles. The replicas were built in the late 1960s to showcase Spanish regional architecture’s development through Muslim and then Christian influences.

The business and speed dating sessions will be held in the Congress Palace Palma part of the village, with lunches being served in the charming village squares.

The Congress Palace itself was designed in the Roman style – the Romans occupied Mallorca for five and a half centuries, establishing Palma as one of the main centres. Under the Romans, the island’s prosperity grew when they introduced roads and new technologies that enabled the production of wheat and wine, which makes the Palace a fitting place to learn more about growth and gold!
